2018 Holiday Fun! Badminton Bowl & Annual Arizona High School Boy’s State Championship

Saturday, December 8th 2018

Arizona Badminton Center

Goldwater’s Badminton Manager, Alxs Galaint, played in the Arizona Boy’s State Championship with mixed results. In singles competition, Alxs drew a player that finished in the top four in the tournament, a tough assignment. Alxs lost by 10 but rebounded to beat his next competitor. The Bulldog lost his next match and was eliminated from singles. In doubles, Galaint was paired with a player from Maricopa High School. The two worked well together and won five straight matches to win the championship, no team scoring more than 16 points.

Alxs also paired in mixed doubles with Jennifer Baca, and Baca with Crisana Phan in women’s doubles at the Holiday Bowl part of the tournament. The event provided the Bulldogs from 6 to as many as 12 matches each and lasted seven hours. It was a great way to keep up the skill level and have a little fun on the side.

Julia Bolotovsky selected to the Deer Valley All-District Team

Elizabeth Palmo, Jennifer Baca,  and Julia Bolotovsky were selected to the All Deer Valley Unified School District Badminton Team. The girls all  had exceptional seasons, helping the Bulldogs to a seventh place finish at the state tournament.

Elizabeth Palmo defeated all other singles position ones at the district championships to claim best player for 2018. The “Black” level player contested three seasons on Varsity, and this season had a regular season winning mark of 13-3 (81.3%) from the singles one position.

Jennifer Baca, a Junior player with two seasons of varsity experience played from position number two for the Bulldogs. Considered to be Goldwater’s best doubles player, Baca’s Season winning percentage was 70% while her singles was at 80%.  The Gold level player will lead the Bulldogs from the singles one position next season.

Second year Varsity player Julia Bolotovsky also had a winning mark of 81.3%. From the number three singles position, she had the crucial win against Ironwood High School, giving Goldwater the overall victory against the state runner up in regular season. Julia, a “Gold” level player, was also the motivational leader (player 21) for this season.

Both senior players will be missed as their combined strength help push the Bulldogs to the best season ever, while junior Jennifer Baca promises to lead the dogs back to the state tournament.
