Arizona State Individual Championships

Friday, October 25th at 10:00pm at Independence HS

The state championships are always one of the most exciting tournaments that a player attends over their time playing badminton. Very few people make it to this event, even less do marginally well at it, and very few ever have a chance to win it. This tournament involves the very best, and most dedicated in the sport this season. It involves girls that have spent the entire year getting ready for it, through off-season practice, and extra conditioning. Goldwater, in fact, has never had a player make it to the final four on Saturday in singles or doubles, but have had many that did well in the first two rounds. Good luck to the three players this year that attempts to advance into Saturday Finals.

Arizona State Team Championships

Starting Monday, October 28th at 3:30pm at Sunrise Mt. HS

The state team championships pair the top 12 teams in both Divisions 1 & 2 at different sites around the area. Goldwater, being in Division 2, is now ranked 5th overall, and must play the 12th ranked team, Kellis, in the first round of play. The winner of this game plays 4th ranked Sunrise Mountain for the chance to go to the state semi-finals. Mesquite, Sunnyslope, and Ironwood, are the other top teams in the mix so Sunrise Mountain has to be the best chance for the Birddogs to advance.

However, first things first, Kellis High School will give Goldwater a better than average match, and has one of the best records out there. Their loses against three top teams were all hard fought, and their wins were all 9-0 blowouts. Can the Birddogs do it?

Team Awards Night

Monday, November 4th at 6:00-7:30

The season, by anyone's figuring, was the best the program has every had. At a varsity 12-2, and JV 8-5, Goldwater athletes demonstrated how badminton should be played and how winners are made.

It's now time to honor these girls and share great stories. Be at the Avenue 27 restaurant at 6:00 as we talk about great things that happened this season.
